Restore our Earth (Day 2021)
Earth Day’s 2021 tagline is Restore our Earth, which I see they have trademarked, so I hope it is ok to repeat #RestoreOurEarth.
My original post started with something many of us have heard of: the three Rs- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle as expounded by the EPA, but we have to go well beyond that to sustainably prosper.
I was going to talk about CO2 emmissions with a focus on:
- Measure
- Reduce
- Innovate to reduce/eliminate
- Offset what you can’t eliminate
But, when I was looking up the 3 Rs, I came across the 5 Rs
- Rethink
- Reduce
- Re-use
- Repair
- Re-gift
- Recover
- Recycle

Rethink because most people don’t think for themselves anymore.
Reuse- growing up poor taught me to be more creative.
Repair because I’d like to see my husband start doing some work on our home.

My Favorite “R words” include:
Remove (barriers) – we need to remove so many kinds of barriers: national, communication, social, social-economic. Removing barriers is deeply connected to justice.
Recovery – I envision a planet that is well adapted for recovery in a short time frame and in the long run.
